Portrait of Elizabeth (Liz) King, smiling with flowers

Elizabeth King

19.10.1967 – 23.09.2026

Liz was a remarkable woman of deep feeling and intellectual curiosity. She was loving and generous.. witty and fiercely loyal. Liz was also described by her family as being glamorous and otherworldly, with an ethereal quality, yet with an underlying sense of fun, full of humour.

Liz was a great humanitarian and a passionate advocate for victims of crime, having worked in the family courts, not for any notoriety, but because of the difference the work made to people’s lives.

Whatever her circumstances, Liz carried herself with grace, never lost her composure and always thought of others before herself.

Liz was dearly loved by her family, by all the members of ‘The Circle of Love,’ and so many people whose lives she touched. Her children, Lily and Harry, were at the very centre of who she was. They shaped every decision she made and gave her life its deepest purpose.

Dear Liz, you will be so missed and are so loved. The most stylish wearer of the little black dress! How kind you were to us all.

  • RENATO MARASCO says:

I remember meeting Liz at a debating tournament in Adelaide in 1990 and dancing to Kylie with her and others. She was so stylish and glamorous. Incredibly friendly and down to earth too. gone too soon.

  • Elyse White says:

Dear Liz words don’t come at all easily in this situation – ironic given how amazing your own verbal skills always were – let alone your theatrical tendencies. So long ago at High School we enjoyed Drama together, literature & so much of the arts in general. In that I am grateful as it is to the arts – & music in particular I turn to, especially in moments of grief. Strangely fittingly I just heard the beautiful Nino Rota score to Romeo & Juliet, the Zeffirelli movie – we studied the text & saw the movie at school. Unlike so many of our peers I think we truly felt the humanity of Shakespeare & have loved it always. My regret is that we only reconnected again in recent months when Jude & you stumbled across each other again after 20 plus years. So many formative connections in our young lives together. Its only since earlier this year you returned to our orbit – so short & yet so impactful! Your presence will never fade as attested to by the outpouring of so much love. Sadly I shan’t be able to attend your service but will be there in spirit & able to view it from afar. Sending love & comforting well wishes to your dear family & friends. I met Liz at university. She was a great debater. Often third speaker, minimal time to prepare, lots of issues to address, but she spoke directly and in a forthright manner, often winning the day. I wish Liz’s family and friends much love and support

  • pearl p kirk says:

My dearest Liz. Remarkable doesn’t seem enough but you truly were. What a sadder place the world is without indomitable spirit. Love you Pearl

  • Justin Meyer says:

Sincere condolences to your family. Remembering a wonderful friend from university years. A beautiful soul and may she rest in peace.

  • Patricia Williams says:

    Nature’s first green is gold,
    Her hardest hue to hold.
    Her early leaf’s a flower;
    But only so an hour.
    Then leaf subsides to leaf.
    So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to day.
    Nothing gold can stay.

“Nothing Gold Can Stay” – Robert Frost

Lily, Harry, Paul and Family –
Liz was such a beautiful woman, both inside and out. I will miss our discussions about writing very much. I will celebrate Liz here in Ottawa, Canada on the day. Take care of each other.

  • Andrea Campbell says:

‘Remembering speechlessly we seek the great forgotten language, the lost lane-end into heaven, a stone, a leaf, an unfound door. Where? When? O lost, and by the wind grieved, ghost, come back again.’ (Thomas Wolfe)

O, my beautiful friend Liz, we spent such happy, funny, inspirational times together. You brought me joy. I think of your stellar spirit, commitment to justice, and that brave, unfailing mammoth heart. I think of your formidable literary talent, and of what the world has lost. My very best wishes to your family as a whole. My utmost thanks and appreciation to Lily, Harry and Paul — close by, with you, on your final journey. XX

  • Tobias Fowler-Oates says:

    Beautiful graceful and ethereal
    Liz….

Now at peace, released to the universe and the spiritual realm

Our hearts feel fractured and heavy with deep sadness, such is the weight we bear with your passing from this earthly plain – untimely and far too soon.

In your characteristic style, faced with multiple and concurrent personal, relationship and health challenges in recent years, you always maintained and modelleda sense of quiet strength, dignity and above all, poise and grace. This is testament to both your resilience and integrity as a remarkable and highly evolved human being.

The world is less without your presence and you will be deeply missed – but know that we will be with you always and your beautiful essence and memory likewise, always residing within us.

This isn’t farewell – it is bon voyage to our dear beloved friend and colleague until we too, are reunited with you in spirit.

Until then my lovely, God’s speed and peace.

Our love and deep, heartfelt condolences to Lily, Harry and Paul
    and Liz’s family

    Xxoo
