Not all funeral directors on the Gold Coast are the same

There are broadly three types of operators — and the differences are worth understanding before you decide.

Large & corporate

The largest funeral homes on the Gold Coast are part of national networks — brands like Simplicity Funerals, George Hartnett Metropolitan Funerals and BrightWater Funerals. They offer recognised names and established processes, but pricing tends to be higher and the experience can feel more transactional than personal.

Independent & family-run

Smaller independent funeral homes on the Gold Coast are typically family owned and operated from a single location. You’ll usually deal directly with the owner, which makes for a more personal experience — generally at a lower price than the major corporates.

Modern & memorial-style

A growing number of Queensland families are moving away from the traditional funeral format, choosing memorial services, natural burials or alternative ceremonies that genuinely reflect the person’s life. Tomorrow is the first funeral business in Australia to focus exclusively on a direct cremation paired with a personal celebration of life.

How much does a funeral cost on the Gold Coast?

We believe in complete transparency when it comes to our funeral package. Here’s an honest breakdown of what to expect.

Direct cremation

On the Gold Coast, direct cremations typically cost between $3,000 and $5,000. At Tomorrow, our Cremation & Paperwork package is our most affordable option. When you notify us that a death has occurred, we will arrange to collect your loved one and transfer them into our care. We treat them with the utmost dignity throughout. They will then be transferred to a local Gold Coast crematorium, with ashes returned within approximately a week. We manage all the paperwork and register the death with the Queensland Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages. At Tomorrow, we charge $3,600 for this service.

Full-service funeral

With larger corporate funeral businesses, costs climb quickly once coffin upgrades, flowers and additional extras are factored in — ranging from around $6,000 to $30,000 or more. The average cost of a funeral on the Gold Coast is around $10,500. If you’re considering burial over cremation, a burial plot can add significantly to that figure.

The Tomorrow package

Our complete funeral package is transparently priced at $7,200 — and it covers everything. Cremation, transfers, eco-friendly coffin, all paperwork, a celebrant to plan and run your memorial, a tribute video, order of service design, a memorial website and a bound life-story picture book. No upgrades. No surprises.

Traditional funeral or memorial — what’s the difference?

The key difference is timing. A traditional funeral holds the ceremony before the burial or cremation. A memorial holds the ceremony after — giving families more time and far more flexibility.

The traditional format suits families with a specific religious process to follow, or where having a coffin present at the service is important. If neither of those things matter to you, a memorial-style service is genuinely worth exploring.

Removing the coffin from the ceremony means your budget goes towards the things that actually create a meaningful farewell — food, music, venue and personal touches — rather than funeral director add-ons. On the Gold Coast, that might mean a gathering at a beachside venue, a garden celebration or a long lunch at a favourite local spot.

Frequently Asked Questions

What exactly is included in a direct cremation?

A direct cremation covers everything that needs to happen before a memorial — collection of your loved one, all the necessary paperwork and the cremation itself. There’s no service attached, which means your family can plan a farewell in your own time, at a place that actually means something.

Do I still get a proper send-off with direct cremation?

Absolutely. Direct cremation simply separates the practical side from the farewell. Once everything is taken care of, you’re free to hold a memorial however and wherever feels right — whether that’s a beachside gathering, a dinner at a favourite restaurant, or a quiet celebration at home.

How long does the cremation process take on the Gold Coast?

Once we collect your loved one, the cremation is typically completed within a few days. Ashes are usually returned to your family within about a week. We handle all the coordination with the crematorium so you don’t have to.

Will I have one consistent person to deal with throughout?

Yes. At Tomorrow, your celebrant is your main point of contact from the very first conversation. They’ll get to know your loved one’s story, help shape the memorial and be there with you every step of the way — so you’re never passed around or left wondering what happens next.
