Not all funeral directors in Perth are the same

There are broadly three types of operators in Perth — and understanding the differences can help you make a more informed choice.

Large & corporate

Perth’s largest funeral businesses operate as part of national corporate groups — brands like Simplicity Funerals, William Atkins Funerals and Bowra & O’Dea. They bring established processes and recognised names, but pricing is typically higher and families can find the experience feels more routine than personal.

Independent & family-run

Perth has a number of well-regarded independent funeral homes that have served local communities for generations. Owner-operated and typically based in a single location, they offer a more personal touch — usually at a more competitive price than the larger networks.

Modern & memorial-style

Across Western Australia, a growing number of families are choosing to move away from traditional funeral formats in favour of memorial services and celebrations of life that feel true to the person. Tomorrow is the first funeral business in Australia to focus exclusively on direct cremation paired with a personal, celebrant-led farewell.

How much does a funeral cost in Perth?

Pricing in the funeral industry can be difficult to navigate. Here’s a straightforward breakdown of what families in Perth can expect to pay.

Direct cremation

In Perth, direct cremations typically cost between $3,000 and $5,000. At Tomorrow, our Cremation & Paperwork package is our most affordable option. Once you notify us, we collect your loved one and transfer them into our care, treating them with complete dignity throughout. They are then transferred to a local Perth crematorium, with ashes returned to your family within approximately a week. We manage all paperwork and register the death with the Western Australian Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages. At Tomorrow, we charge $3,600 for this service.

Full-service funeral

With Perth’s larger corporate funeral homes, costs can rise sharply once coffin selections, flowers and additional services are factored in — anywhere from $6,000 to $30,000 or more. The average cost of a funeral in Perth is around $10,500. Choosing burial over cremation adds the cost of a burial plot on top.

The Tomorrow package

Our complete package is priced at a single transparent rate of $7,200. It covers everything your family needs: cremation, transfers, eco-friendly coffin, all paperwork, a celebrant to plan and run your memorial, a tribute video, order of service design, a memorial website and a bound life-story picture book. No upgrades. No surprises.

Traditional funeral or memorial — what’s the difference?

It comes down to when the ceremony happens. A traditional funeral holds the service before the cremation or burial. A memorial is held after — and that difference gives families significantly more time, flexibility and freedom.

A traditional format works well when there’s a religious framework to follow, or when the family wants a coffin present at the service. Outside of those circumstances, a memorial-style farewell is often the more meaningful — and more personal — choice.

With the cremation handled separately, your budget goes toward the things that leave a lasting impression — the people, the stories, the venue and the atmosphere. In Perth, that might mean a gathering overlooking the Swan River, a celebration at a favourite local venue, or something quiet and intimate at home.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does a direct cremation involve?

A direct cremation takes care of everything on the practical side — collecting your loved one, completing the required paperwork and performing the cremation — without a service attached. It gives your family the freedom to plan a memorial separately, whenever and wherever feels right.

Is a direct cremation still a proper farewell?

Yes — and for many Perth families, it’s actually a better one. Separating the cremation from the memorial means you’re not rushed into planning a service during the hardest days. You get time to think, to grieve, and to organise something that genuinely reflects your loved one.

How long does everything take in Perth?

The cremation is typically completed within a few days of your loved one coming into our care. Ashes are returned to your family within approximately a week. We manage all coordination with the crematorium and the registry — you don’t need to chase anything.

Who looks after our family throughout the process?

At Tomorrow, your celebrant is with you from the very first conversation to the final farewell. They’ll get to know your loved one’s story, help shape a memorial that feels right, and be your consistent point of contact throughout — no handoffs, no starting over with someone new.
