08.04.1939 – 25.08.2026
Ian was full of life; engaging, enthusiastic, sharp as a tack. A man of the world, he lived and worked in 7 different countries over his life. He had many passions, including (not in any order) wine, reading, robust discussion, politics, swimming, walking, skiing and always his family, wife, kids and grandkids as well as his brother and cousin. Ian was widely respected, often sought out as a reasoned, logical sounding board providing honest, thoughtful advice. Very much loved, Ian will be missed deeply by all who knew him.

You were full of kindness, wisdom and gave insight with inspiration. We will miss you.
To Tricia, Jay, Fiona, Vanessa and Andy,
You did Ian proud with a moving and loving memorial tribute to him which he would love to have attended. During the service, I was reminded of so many wonderful times Phil and I shared with Ian and Nina in London, on holiday in France, at many TEC events over the years, many Huntington Festivals in Mudgee with great wines and music and later with Trish, and at ACO concerts in Sydney right up to the last one when Ian was bright, bubbly and engaged. The Lark Ascending by Ike was perfect and fitting.
My thoughts are with you and your loss. Ian will be missed by many – a testament to his love of people.
I first met Ian before COVID, and from the very first day, we got on like a house on fire. Perhaps it was because we were both fellow Aries, but we simply understood one another from day one.
Although Ian was in his 80s and I am in my 50s, the age difference never mattered. We connected as friends, shared a very similar outlook on the world, and had many fascinating conversations about politics, life and the way everything around us continues to evolve.
It was a true privilege to be Ian’s personal trainer and to spend two hours with him each week. His dedication to his training was extraordinary quite possibly the greatest dedication I have seen in anyone I have trained. Having worked in the fitness industry for 30 years, I don’t say that lightly.
But our sessions became about so much more than training. I thoroughly enjoyed every moment I spent with Ian, from the work we did together to the wonderful conversations, stories and laughs we shared along the way.
I didn’t just consider Ian a client; I considered him a dear friend. I miss him deeply and will always treasure the time we spent together.
My heartfelt thoughts are with Ian’s family during this very difficult time. I hope you find comfort and healing in the many wonderful memories you shared with him. Ian was truly one of a kind, and I know he will be dearly missed by us all.
Jürgens and Irene are mourning with the rest of the Austrian family with all our relatives.
Though he was so far away and we did not often have the opportunity to see him, we liked him so much because he always was friendly and had a good humor. We enjoyed every time we met him and will always keep his memory in our heart.
Ian was great company- warm. Well informed and a great sense of humor. Paul and I have very fond memories of spending fun times with Ian and Nina in Japan when we were all living over there for work! Condolences to Vanessa, Jay and Tricia
Ian and I have lost a wonderful friend, whom we will miss tremendously. OUr thoughts are with Tricia, Vanessa, and Jay, and their families at this time.
When we look back over our adult lives, the presence of Ian looms large with that of both his wonderful wives: first Nina, then Tricia. Initially Ian and Nina were a constant presence. When I started as an OT at North Shore in 1967, I became friends with Nina and then Ian – and then they introduced me to my Ian. Together as a group we went to concerts, operas, arranged parties and were members of the ski club. In Lansdown’s energy and enthusiasm and great taste in wives (for himself and his friends) kept our friendship vibrant for 59 years. We celebrated so many of life’s milestones together.
Ian was a greeat initiator and ideas man. Dinner parties could become quite heated as we tried to solve all the world’s problems in one sitting. He loved good company and stimulating discussions and had a large network of friends from all walks of life.
We saw another side of Ian when Nina’s health began to fail, in his constant care and the lengths to which he would go in support of her. After the loss of Nina, we were all delighted that he and Tricia found each other.
Ian was a loyal and supportive friend to us all through our lives, and his loss leaves a more than life-sized absence. Fortunately, after a lifetime of conversations, we will have his voice in our heads offering encouragement and giving his advice.
We will miss Ian, he has shaped our lives, and with his passing, we lose our friend, as well as a hugely significant part of our past.
Ian was a wonderful uncle – always so interesting and interested in us, what we were doing and everything going on in the world. He was a generous host and we have many fabulous memories of staying in Hong Kong and France, and of family barbecues/lunches/dinners in Lindfield. Ian was a real man of the world and was knowledgeable about politics, the arts and business and was quick to make people feel at ease with his terrific sense of humour and infectious laugh. I will also always think of the love and consideration he showed to us when my own darling Dad passed away, and of his care he showed throughout my life to me and Mum (Robin). I feel awful that we will be away for Ian’s memorial but he is in my thoughts and in our hearts. My love and condolences to Tricia, Vanessa and Jay and your families – his love for, and pride in, you all was paramount and I know how dreadfully he will be missed. With lots of love and a heavy heart, Annabel, Jono, Oliver & Maddie xxx
For over 4 decades, Ian was the most loyal and reliable friend that I could wish for. I feel a huge loss and void as his passing. I send my condolences to Tricia, Vanessa, Jay and families. Ian’s light will live in our hearts.
A dear man… Ian has left an impressive footprint on this earth. He will be greatly missed.!
Ian Lansdown
Ian led a very successful and enjoyable life full of energy, achievements and lasting friendships. He was drive by his strong personal values – incuding love for his family, honesty, kindness and a. deep personal interest in culture. He also smiled a lot.
He was given some big health kicks in later life and he worked hard physically and mentally to overcome them. Always up, never down.
Ian and Nina were a tour de force. Ian and Tricia were a tour de force. My wife Delia was a good friend of Nina’s. And latter a good friend of Tricia’s. I will never forget their many kindnesses to me after Delia passed away.
On 27 August I emailed Ian and Tricia from the UK. It included photos of some flowers in a village near Cambridge. Attached (hopefully). To help lift your spirits Tricia and as a small tribute to Ian – a lovely Bloke and a good Aussie.
My condolences to Vanessa, Jay and Tricia.
Vale Ian.

Throughout my younger years and particular since my marriage to Gary, Ian has been a huge presence in our lives. We asked Ian to speak at our wedding and since that time we’ve remained in close contact with him and Nina, often visiting them wherever they were living in the world. More recently, we enjoyed the same close relationship with Ian and Trish as well. Gary and I loved our lunches with them, the most recent one being at Ian’s favourite place being Bathers at Balmoral Beach in early July. Ian was a pillar of strength and knowledge for us. He was always there to offer us guidance and to point us in the right direction. He was a man of intellect and class, loved his music, loved his travels and more than anything loved his children and grandchildren. He was so proud of them and it showed whenever he spoke about them, which was often. Ian always showed great interest in our lives and that of our children and grandchildren. He was truly loved by Gary and I. We already miss him so much and hope to continue our friendship with Trish, who we love dearly.
Vanessa, Jay and Tricia
I had the good fortune to work for Ian at Citicorp Capital Investors for 6-7 years from 1985 to 1990. I was a “rookie” in the private equity team managed by Ian, and he was the most wonderful teacher of the investment “craft”. He was intellectually very strong, good at playing devil’s advocate, but maintained a sense of proportion (and humor) at all times. I had the honor of publicly acknowledging Ian’s guidance at a private equity conference some 18 years later. He will be missed.
I met Ian about 12 years ago when I was invited to join the walking group and he talked me into joining the Monday morning golf group
Always happy to see you and he usually played in the first group off the tee and left a cherry ripe chocolate bar in with the flag on the 7th green
Also his and Trish’s hospitality opening their home for the Walking Group Chrismas party
RIP Ian you will be missed by all who knew and loved you

My late husband Richard & I met Ian and Nina, Jay and Vanessa whilst we were all living in Singapore. Wonderful memories of fun times and many trips to Rawa. A lovely man who will be sadly missed.
I met Ian as Ian married my beautiful friend Tricia
Thank you Ian (RIP), for being in my life. You were always so kind and lovely to me, those memories I will treasure. I did enjoy the conversations we had and how we discussed how we could make the world better.
My thoughts are with the family and Tricia during this sad time. Big Hug to you all.
Ian was the perfect father-in-law and a true gentleman – always interested in our lives (though forever disappointed that I was ‘wasting my life’ as a public servant rather than getting a real job in investment banking), always proud of the achievements of his children and his grandchildren, and always bringing excellent wine when invited to dinner. He taught me the importance of considering seating plans at a dinner party if you want to encourage good conversation. Even at 87 he lived his life fully and remained engaged with a broad range of friends, interests and issues. An inspiration for how I approach the next 40 years.
A true gentleman. He was never rushed when you spent time with him and was always very present in conversation. He always called me sport which I liked!
Always enjoyed Ian’s company and perspective… a thoughtful, gentleman… also liked the way he would say “Hi sport!”
Ian was truly one of nicest gentleman I have ever met. Always so genuinely interested in what we were up to as a family and so dedicated to his physical training with Kyle every week right up until the end. We are so heartbroken for Tricia and his family and will miss his infectious positivity and “terrific” outlook and conversations. Love Kyle, Mel and Ziggy xx
Four days younger than my husband, Ian B, Ian L was a generous friend with a ready laugh and clever wit. He will be sorely missed.
Ian was a true friend, Tony and I always enjoyed his lively company and great sense of humour, we will miss him greatly. A lovely man. Our thoughts are with his family at this sad time.
Ian and Nina were great friends of me and my late wife Lisbeth. We met on Rawa Island, Malaysia, when we were both working in Singapore in the late seventies. Ian was an engaging and enthusiastic man. Since moving to Melbourne I have seen little of him but we kept in touch. Sad to have him leave us.
Ian was a good friend. Intelligent, warm, always greeted with a smile. A fine man.
