Life & Death, Today & Tomorrow – death by suicide

‘Life & Death, Today & Tomorrow’ by Kate Morgan. It’s a space where we tell the stories of our beloved clients and co-workers in the death space. We’re working on a volume of interviews that aim to inspire, advocate and support. (Watch Chapter One HERE.)

This conversation contains information about suicide which some individuals may find distressing.

– CHAPTER TWO –

Josephine’s Story

This is why Tomorrow exists. Sharing stories is at the heart of our Tomorrow Memorials.

We are proud to be able to share Josephine’s story – a conversation that sheds light on taboo, stigma and shame that surrounds the distressing subject of death by suicide.

About ‘Josephine’s Story’

Josephine, a long-time mentor for many within the funeral business, provides a unique and poignant reflection of her own daughter, Kate’s struggle with mental health and her death by suicide.

Josephine is vulnerable in sharing Kate’s bravery in the face of significant mental health issues and within the conversation reminds us of the invisible nature of Kate’s struggle. Despite many attempts on her own life, Josephine knew that Kate desperately wanted to live. This is the nature of the harrowing dichotomy between the brain and the body.

This is a must-listen chat. Josephine provides meaningful insights for us all to consider and leaves one feeling better able to understand the immense struggle associated with suicidal ideation. She reminds us that there is nothing selfish about suicide and also firmly asserts that dealing with the issue of suicide with anger can be very unhelpful for all.

Research shows that talking about suicide can reduce shame and encourage people to seek help.

If you or anyone you know is struggling with mental health issues, there are many agencies available to provide assistance. Or simply call the 24/7 help line at Lifeline Australia on 13 11 14.
